    THE DEPARTMENT:
    The Engineering & Public Works Department is responsible for maintaining the City's public assets, including all infrastructure, right of way, parks, facilities and the City’s vehicle and equipment fleet. The Engineering Division oversees the City’s Capital Improvement Program (CIP), Storm Water & Environmental Compliance, Traffic Safety, and Engineering Permits, Plan Checks and Inspections for private development.  The Public Works operations team provides essential services for the community through its four Divisions: Streets & Wastewater Maintenance, Parks Maintenance,  Facilities Maintenance, and Fleet & Equipment Maintenance.

    THE POSITION: 
    Under general supervision, to operate light and medium duty power-driven equipment; perform a variety of semi-skilled and skilled manual tasks. This position will be required to work stand-by duties.
     

    ALTERNATIVE WORK SCHEDULE:
    This position typically works a 4/10 workweek from 6am to 4:30pm, Monday through Thursday. City offices are closed on Fridays. All crew members have the responsibility to work Standby Duties, which consist of a 2 person, 1 week rotation, where they must be available to respond to afterhours and weekend emergency call outs.

    Key Responsibilities

    The following duties and responsibilities are representative of those typically performed by positions assigned to this classification. Any single position may not perform all of these duties and/or may perform similar related tasks not listed here.
     

    • Operates, services, and makes minor adjustments to light, power-driven street or sewer construction equipment, including such auxiliary equipment as gravel spreader, oil distributor, and compressor.
    • Loads, transports, and unloads stone, gravel, dirt, asphalt, and other materials.
    • Operates a variety of other motor-driven equipment, including skip loader, backhoe, dump truck, small grader, roller, sewer rod, or flushing machine, and occasionally operates motor grader or large tractors or bulldozers.
    • Operates air tools, such as jackhammer.
    • Performs heavy and semi-skilled or skilled construction, maintenance, and labor work when the nature of the job does not require operation of equipment regularly assigned.
    • May occasionally supervise the work of maintenance workers assisting with related operations.
    • Performs related duties as required. 
    • This position will be required to work stand-by duties. 
    • Places traffic control devices and directs traffic in streets to ensure proper and safe traffic flow.
